Ok, here is the thing. Many people speak of Remy hair today, that all hair strands are lined up the same direction, so the cuticles are not against the direction of each other.

Yes, this is very important but a lot of the hair circulating the market today does not have cuticles anymore it has been removed in the process to make it softer and lighter and silicone has been added for shine.

Silicone cannot be compared to cuticles. Why? In simple terms because the cuticles allow the nutrients and moisture inside the hair strands and silicone becomes a layer on the strand and keeps it out.

As the hair is washed with shampoo the silicone will be gradually
washed off and that means your extensions will become very dry and break easily.

So how can we do a simple trick to see if the cuticles are still there?

Take a small sample of the hair put your thumb and index finger on top and below of the sample and pull against the direction of the hair. There should be a little friction. Now try again with "wet" fingers and if it is almost impossible to pull against direction then all the cuticles are still there and intact! If it flows easily then they're gone...
